2024/2025 Academic Session
Protocols
It is with a mixture of great delight and submission to the wishes and plans of Allah that I stand here before you, on behalf of the Governing Council, Academic Board, Management staff and all staff of the institution, to welcome you all to the Matriculation ceremony of our dear institution, Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure. I wish to specially welcome all our distinguish guests that find time within their tight schedules and engagement to grace this occasion.
At this Matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 intake, the Polytechnic will formally admit 678 students into various ND and HND courses in Sciences, Engineering, Technology and Management spreading in to our five different Schools. Out of this number, 633 are ND students while 45 are HND students. Among the 633 ND students, six (6) are foreign students.
Today's event is particularly significant as it marks the formal enrolment of the matriculating students into the Polytechnic's academic program, in line with the recommendations of JAMB. It is therefore with great pleasure and joy that I welcome all the students into the Polytechnic and pray that Allah will use the armaments of this Institution to foster their growth and development in the overall interest of our Nation. This period marks the beginning of a long and challenging but fulfilling journey in your academic development. I therefore employ you to be resilient, focus and dedicated to the primary reason you are here, that is to pursue high level of education for your future roles as tomorrow's leaders.
I also wish to use this opportunity to congratulate your parents for the pivotal roles they are playing in your lives, and to hope and pray that the investment they are making in you will not be in vain. Permit me to at this point offer a word or two of advice to the students. This Polytechnic is a place where you enjoy a lot of freedoms, but that freedom often comes with some corresponding obligations. Here, your freedom ends where another person's freedom begins. So, not only must you protect your rights, privileges and freedoms, you must also ensure that you do not trample on the rights, privileges, and freedoms of others. In this Polytechnic, we pride ourselves in not only training students in skills and academic work, but also in character, so that upon graduation, students are fully ready to be responsible citizens who will contribute to national development, in a peaceful, patriotic and result-oriented manner. I therefore recommend that you emulate the example of your mentors and lecturers in self-discipline, self-care, good mode of dressing, fidelity to studies and work, and general comportment, so that you will not be found wanting at any time during the course of your studies and beyond.
I believe you must have been told during the course of matriculation lectures yesterday, or when you were making up your mind to enroll in to this institution, that the Polytechnic does not tolerate any form of indecency from students. Vices like examination malpractice, theft, cultism and violence in any form attract outright expulsion. On the other hand, I wish to inform you and all visitors present here that we pride ourselves as one of the institutions with the best, experience and dedicated lecturers and workers. You will be taught by well-trained and experienced lecturers, your laboratory works and sessions will be manned by experienced technologies and technicians and your day to day activities in the polytechnic will generally be guided and assessed by experienced and dedicated workers.
I'm happy to announce to both students and parents that, starting from year 2024, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, (Tetfund), has introduced a new intervention line with the Title: Career Centers/Units. This new intervention is purposely for the initiation, taking up and continuous maintenance of a students' Career center for the sole purpose of students' Career guidance and advices. I therefore wish to employ students to take good use of this office in discussing all your Career program, progress and any challenges encountered during the course of your stay in this institution.
Similarly, within the 2025 financial year, a befitting student center will be constructed for students' social, cultural and educational developments. We are also undertaking an ambitious program of lightening up the Polytechnic environment in addition to coming up with five number reading centers solely powered by solar.
As a result of the poor supply of electricity by KEDCO and the fact that our water supply system is dependent on electricity, all boreholes that supply water to students hostels, classrooms and laboratories will be converted to solar powered ones. On the same note, there will be a holistic reticulation of our water supply system. We are also undertaking a massive procurement of sporting facilities, laboratory equipment and consumables for students' practical works.
In fact, within the 2025 financial year there will be many developmental projects and procurements all centered on the students. These are to ensure that your stay in the Polytechnic is memorable, worthwhile and fulfilling.
One major difference between us and the universities is in the scope, frequency and nature of practical we exposed our students to. This is in addition to the entrepreneurial skills impacted to students for self-reliance. While appreciating the fact that there are issues regarding the timely provision of practical facilities, consumables and materials, I'm happy to announce to you all that concrete measures are being put in place to ensure supply of practical equipment and facilities while continuous efforts will be put to ensure supply of practical consumables before the beginning of each semester.
We have no doubt that this Polytechnic is strongly positioned to solve some of the nation's problem of unemployment by graduating not only self-employed youth but also youth that are themselves employers of labour. Indeed, the present management staff of the Polytechnic has this very tall dream and aspiration; however, our resources are very limited. We wish to therefore appeal to all men and women of goodwill to support the Polytechnic to attain its noble dreams and aspirations in this aspect.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge the huge community support the Polytechnic is receiving from the Kazaure emirate council, especially from His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kazaure, Alh. Dr. Najeeb Hussaini Adamu, CON and the good people of the emirate. The concern, helps and assistances the polytechnic is receiving from our Senator, the Walin Kazaure, Alh Dr. Babangida Hussaini must be mentioned at any slight opportunity. This is to once again register our collective gratitude and appreciation and to encourage other philanthropist to emulate the Senator.
I wish to assure all present today that this institution will continue to be administered with high level of integrity, transparency and regard for the ultimate day of accountability. We shall therefore never compromise the principles of integrity and transparency, regardless of the circumstances.
I also wish to state without any fear of ambiguity, that this Polytechnic is being positioned to be a trail-blazer in good governance, accountability and transparency within the firmament of Nigeria's educational system.
Once again, I thank you all for your presence here today, and pray that Allah will take you back to your various destinations safely.
